![]() Question 164 I ordered your full swing tape and have been using it to rebuild my golf swing. I am making good progress. However, my problem continues to be over swinging on the backswing, and the resulting chaos that causes while trying to get back to the ball. Today I went back to one of the drills (waist high)and that helped me shorten the swing with amazing results. Solid, straight shots, although without enough distance. That was with a five iron. The longer the club the more trouble I have controlling the back swing. I am very flexible, perhaps too much so. Any suggestions on how to control this one problem that causes so many bad golf shots? Absent injuries, over swinging is most often caused by a swing tempo that is too fast. Simply count on the way back to 3, using your left shoulder to initiate the turn and then raise the arms. This doesn't mean that you will take 3 seconds to swing back, but it will slow you down and put you in more control. The cumulative effects of a backswing going back at .4 or.6 seconds is like having a 7 to 15 pound weight slung over you shoulder. Also by slowing down you'll feel the deltoid lift and the biceps curl that define the top of your swing.
