![]() Question 266 I love your putting video. Thanks so much. I have a question for you. What are some specific things a player can do mentally and physically to be at peak performance for a big amateur tournament, like the state amateur. I advise playing 3 games. The first is best ball. Hit 2 balls and play the better of the 2 until holed. This will get you to think low and make more birdies. The second is to play the worst ball of 2 balls. But again play 2 balls from that spot, and so on until holed. This will make you play smart and only hit shots that you can pull off with a huge probability of success. Remember you must play 2 balls from the worst ball from every spot meaning that you have to hole 2 putts back to back. The third game I doubt you will do. That is where you set a target score for the day and then subtract each hole score until you run out of strokes. I set my target score for 67 and will walk off the course when I reach 67. If I finish 18 with less than 67 I will reward myself with more holes. This will train you to get the most out of your game and to conserve shots and project forward. This is extremely hard to do. Then on the putting green you need to play a tournament with six 10 foot putts and six 15 foot putts and six 30 foot putts. You need to shoot 8 under to make the cut at 36 holes , and 22 under for 72 to win. The tournament record is 36 under so have at it.
