Question 3

Q: Do larger heads help the average golfer?

A: Only psychologically. Practically they hurt your game because they have a tendency to twist more on off-center hits. A very simple equation for torque, the force that causes twisting, is Torque = Force times the Lever Length. This shows that larger heads must twist more than smaller heads because the axis of rotation is around the shaft and hosel, not the center of gravity of the club head.

Further, larger heads have more wind resistance. Higher wind resistance reduces club head speed. A simple way to test this is to put your hand out the window of your car. Try it with a fist and then with your hand opened.
