Question 70

Dear Scott,

I had to chuckle at the little sparring match between you and Buzz. My personal feeling is that if he is so effective with his teachings, and if he is world class then we should all know who he is.

He should have the web site, videos and equipment to sell if "he is the man". I would invite him to let himself be known and share his knowledge rather than challenge your expertise. This is a game where we help each other not attack each other. This game is very individual, we can't all swing like Moe and get his results, and I think your teaching promotes this.

I am from the state of Washington, and may be interested in your clinic out here . If one is being organized please let me know.

Thanx, Ron

Dear Scott,

About Buzzsaw, I'm not 100 percent sure, mind you, but if the person I'm thinking about is not him, I will be real surprised.

About 4 years ago, he and his cousin, both professionals, used the conventional swing and were not getting results like they wanted. Being Canadians, they decided to study Moe Norman's swing in-depth.

It became an obsession with them. They broke it down in the minutest detail. They hit balls by the hundreds each day. They transformed their swings to be exactly like Moe's, complete with his trademark point-the-club-at-the-target finish.

Almost 4 years later, Buzzsaw's cousin has, in part, abandoned trying to be another Moe. He attempted Canadian Tour Q-school in May and missed the cut by two or three shots (I forget the exact amount). Buzzsaw presses on, and reports I've heard say he's playing pretty well. To my knowledge, he has never been a member of any major tour, and is not at the present.

My evidence that I know Buzzsaw: Several weeks ago, I was at the driving range where he works. I told him about Scigolf and Scott. He told me later he read through the web-site thoroughly, and would e-mail Scott a question or two. Buzzsaw is indeed a certified Master Teaching Professional with the teaching organization he belongs to, and the time frame he mentioned in your archives is a close fit to actually how long he has been at Moe's swing.

I also mentioned how Scott says Moe's swing has changed over the years. Buzzsaw says he has pictures of Moe's swing in his 30's also, and insists Moe's swing has not changed since then. Buzzsaw's reference to Scott's assertion that Moe's swing "somehow changed" since he turned 60 is just another piece in the puzzle. Everything fits. Too much about Buzzsaw's actions and words fits the e-mail he sent. I'm sure he fancies himself a world-class player, and he might be a legitimate plus-handicapper. But "world-class?" He has yet to demonstrate that to me.

I will preserve his anonymity, since he hasn't made it available to you, and since there IS a chance my friend is not Buzzsaw.

Sincerely,
M.H.

We did hear from Buzzsaw. He wants to play Scott this fall. He said he doesn't have time to work on his game now.
