Question 79

Dear Scott,

Some touring pros like Doug Sanders some years back and Dana Quigley today, look like they are using a single-axis swing. Is it possible to get good results from a hybrid conventional motion and single-axis swing?

What you single-axis advocates need is someone on a tour to be successful with the single-axis swing. Jerry Heard didn't make it, but it doesn't look like he uses the swing he promotes anyhow.

Is Jack Kuykendall ready for the Senior Tour or is he going for the Super Seniors now?

Thanks,
John

Dear John,

Single axis can only be done with a grip that has the shaft and the forearm on the same line. Many components of the single axis swing are similar to the conventional with the exception of the release and impact position.

Jerry does not use a single axis swing, and he says it is because of what he would look like.

As for Jack's plans, you'll have to ask him.
