![]() Question 87 Dear Scott, I have a 17 year old son with a great golf swing which is at 109 mph. He currently is using a big Callaway, firm shaft, but his tee shots are only maybe 15 to 20 ft. off the ground and his head is staying behind the ball. In the Kansas City area I haven't found a shop that carries an extra stiff shaft. Before I invest in an extra stiff do you think this is what he might need?
Thank you for your help, Dear Larry, Shafts functions include directional control and trajectory. If he's only 15 to 20 ft. off the ground then he needs a more flexible shaft not a stiffer one. Because I don't know where his hands are at impact, or the loft of his driver, my first suggestion would be to have a more flexible shaft without increasing the torque. I suggest playing with the most flexible shaft that he is comfortable with because of the added feel.
