Question 351

From Ray:

Questions about grooves on my wedge. Hi Scott, Greetings from Ireland.

I recently purchased a new Tad Moore wedge. It's is a fine club with good feel but with one problem that is driving me crazy. Every shot I hit with the club tears the skin off the ball. By this I mean the grooves are skimming off a fine layer of the white cover. My question: Is this a common problem with new wedges and will the problem diminish after a while?

Yes it should.

The upside of my problem is the club is generating great spin on contact with the greens. Is there any way a club repairer could soften the edges of the grooves perhaps? I look forward to hearing from you.

Again the answer is yes, use a steel wool pad to smooth the surface.
