Comments on Scott's New VideosScott's new videos, How to Hit the Ball Straight, come in a package that includes a CD, 2 DVDs, the same material on a VHS tape for those who do not have a DVD player, and a book of score cards designed for tracking your progress as well as your score. The package itself is about the size of a 3 ring notebook and has plastic inserts to hold the individual items in place. Now the content. In the first DVD, The Problem With Conventional Golf, Scott shows the problems, that is the complexity that the Vardon grip brings into the golf swing. Among these are the need to rotate the club just prior to impact, and the necessity for additional body movements. He then shows his transverse grip and demonstrates how that grip brings simplicity to the swing. Next Scott introduces his motion building exercises, Impact Backwards, the Golf Kata and the Golf Chi. These motion building exercises are the foundation of Scott's teaching and the reason for the phenomenal success his students achieve. Scott brings in the mental game with his visualization exercises, one is the Gate which you hit the ball through. The Gate is the use of 2 balls placed in front of the ball you're striking while practicing and then taking a mental image of that to the course during play. He concludes with a quick demonstration of his putting and short game techniques. At this point Scott shows his second visualization exercise, the Rewind. Rewind is seeing a putt or chip coming out of the cup and tracking back to your ball. The second DVD, Straight Line Golf, covers in much more detail the transverse grip, stance, Impact Backwards exercises, the Golf Kata and the Golf Chi. This DVD concludes with putting and the short game, again far more thoroughly than in the first DVD. The first DVD, The Problem With Conventional Golf runs a little less than an hour. (There were so many 'phone interruptions when I viewed the DVDs I didn't keep exact running time, and forgot to look at the timer on the player. Oh well, age I guess!). The second DVD, Straight Line Golf, runs over an hour. Both DVDs were shot indoors giving consistent lighting and sound. At least there aren't any wind or airplane noises, but near the end of both DVDs you'll hear some construction sounds. I mention this not because it's annoying, it really isn't, but Scott doesn't react to the sounds. He's totally focused. Overall production quality is excellent. There are some neat opening shots of Scott playing. Both DVDs are indexed which allows you to select the segment you want to view without having to go through the DVD to get to it. You'll ask so I'll comment now. Scott uses the Sure Stroke putter in the first video and a Mizuno putter in the second. Scott is using Mizuno irons in both videos and you'll see a Mizuno Staff bag in the background. Mizuno made Scott a staff member which is great, let's hope, for both of them. The tracks on the CD, which I haven't listened to, are How to Use the Program, Golf Kata, Golf Chi, How to Warm Up, Building Business Relationships on the Golf Course, Changing the Way (one golfer at a time). Cost is $97 for the complete package. How about overlap with Scigolf videos? The Problem With Conventional Golf is close to the content of Master the Golf, our full swing video, Scott has changed the order he teaches Impact Backwards, and the Scigolf full swing video does not cover anything on putting and the short game. Scott's new video was shot indoors which avoided the problems we had with Master the Golf Swing which was shot outdoors. Straight Line Golf, the second new video, is similar in content to Scigolf's How to Master the Golf Swing. Again there isn't anything on putting or the short game in How to Master the Golf Swing. The first portion of How to Master the Golf Swing was shot in a TV studio solving variations in lighting and eliminating extraneous noise. The second segment of How to Master the Golf Swing was shot on a range bringing in lighting and noise concerns. However, the second segment of How to Master the Golf Swing gets into shot making more thoroughly than Straight Line Golf. If you are teaching I think Scott's new videos are worth buying. His presentation is superb and will give you ideas you can use in your own teaching. And I'm sure there are nuances that I missed when I viewed the videos. Likewise if you're really into golf you'll benefit from Scott's presentation and any nuances I missed. If you have both Master the Golf Swing and How to Master the Golf Swing, and you are not a golf teacher or golf nut, then my suggestion is if you want to go further the Scigolf putting and short game videos are a more cost effective solution. We will post Scott's videos and put them on the order form soon. Just waiting for graphics.
