Question 480

Scott's latest condition and next medical procedure.

Craig:

Did you decide any days to have a school here?

[Craig is director of golf at Jonathons Landing in Delaware.]

Craig,

First off let me apologize for not getting back with you, now let me explain why.   After I got the flu I haven't fully recovered, and then the two day school that I just did in Orlando wore me out to the point of exhaustion.   I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do three days schools anymore.   I went in yesterday for a cardiopulmonary stress test and failed miserably.   They have advised me to hold off on doing any more schools for the time being.

Now for the good news, it looks like they'll recommend me for the study at the hospital for the myoblast cell transplantation (that's where they take a small piece of muscle out of your thigh, culture the stem cells and then inject them into the heart wall each injection consists of about 10 million cells) on average a person that has my ejection fraction that's in the low twenties goes up into the high thirties and some have even gone up to 60%.   The average person has an ejection fraction somewhere between 50 and 70%, but I would at least be able to function very normally at 40%.  The ejection fraction is how much blood is being pumped out of your heart with each contraction.

In the meantime can you remind me of the dates that we talked about doing it?   If my condition improves, I very much want to come out there, so setting a date a couple months out is worth doing.

Warm personal regards,

Scott
