Question 528  From Jeff:

Scott, I have been researching various "single-plane" systems.   Of all that I have across, yours appeals to me the most.   However, one of your old associates, Jack Kuykendall, has a fascinating website that is nagging at the engineering side of my brain with his Lever-Power Golf System.

Sample them both, the purity of technique will win out.

FYI, I am 5'10", 205lbs and reasonably athletic.  I am a 3.2 handicap, swing speed of 115 (driver), and hit an 8-iron from 150.   I have veered into the palm/hammer grip on my own.   My accuracy is obviously, above average, but I have a severe fear factor on a tight golf course.

It’s for people like you that I developed the concept of the gate, you’re able to use the subconscious program for negotiating constraints to drive balls on tight golf courses.

I want to improve, hence I am contemplating trying a new swing.   As I reside in the Northeast, I recognize that the off-season is the time for such a move.  My goal is simply to play scratch, and to do so consistently on difficult courses,  I believe I need to increase my swing speed to 125, and increase accuracy by about 10%.  My original plan was a conditioning program based on sound science, utilizing both strenght and speed training, focusing on the arms and shoulders, along with losing 40lbs, combined with swing refining.  I was hoping that each component could give me another 5mph.

I like the way you think, the Golf Kata the Golf CHI (shown on How to Master the Golf Swing), The Three Magic Moves, Impact Backwards (on Master the Golf Swing), swing speed exercises (How to Master the Golf Swing), and my newest program which uses essentially the spinning technique that you see in gyms only with the trainer and a light club will give you a workout and help you find your swing like a no other!   Not to mention it will give you one heck of a workout.  These exercises followed consistently will maximize your potential without question.

I find Jack's program very appealing scientifically, but since I already employ a "palm/hammer" 10 finger grip, I believe your system would be easier to incorporate.   What is the advantage of your system versus Jack's Lever-Power Golf?

Thank you for any light you may shed on this issue.

I think one advantage is you don’t have to overcome the fear of looking completely different on the golf course.  I also believe that you can work on exactly what you want to happen instead of exaggerating the motion.
