Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf was a weekly television series that aired from 1962 through 1970. This video is a golf match between Kathy Whitworth, Carol Mann and Sandra Haynie, played at Royal Bangkok Sports Club, in Thailand. This match was the first Shell match to feature women golfers, however it was never released to air on television. The Royal Bangkok Sports Club in Thailand is a 5,500 yard, par 66 course that features small, flat greens and unique bunkering. Kathy Whitworth began her professional career in 1959 at the age of 19 and went on to win 88 official titles. A student of renowned teacher Harvey Penick, she was named “Golfer of the Decade” by Golf Magazine in 1977. Carol Mann burst onto the woman’s circuit in 1961 and won 38 official events over the next 21 years. She ranks eighth on the all time money list and was one of the founding members of the LPGA. Sandra Haynie put together 42 official victories in a career that spanned 30 years. One of only two women to win both the LPGA Championship and the U.S. Women’s Open in the same year, she earned her way into the LPGA Hall of Fame in 1977.

This video is a golf match between Chi Chi Rodriguez and Tommy Jacobs, played at Lyford Cay Club in the Bahamas and was originally aired on February 14, 1965. Juan “Chi Chi” Rodriguez is the winner of eight PGA Tour events. He represented Puerto Rico in 12 World Cup competitions and he has been very successful on the Senior PGA Tour. Tommy Jacobs holds four PGA Tour titles. In 1964 he gained prominence at the U.S. Open, when he came in second to Ken Venturi. Tommy was a member of the 1965 Ryder Cup Team, and was the runner up at the 1966 Masters.

This video is a golf match between Bert Yancey, Tony Jacklin and Roberto DeVicenzo, played at the Karen Country Club, in Kenya, aired January 18, 1969. Built it 1931, the Karen Country Club just outside Nairobi, Kenya, is a tree lined par 72 golf course that stretches out over 6,800 yards. The altitude of the course, 4500 feet above sea level, gives the golfer the advantage of longer drives. Bert Yancey won seven PGA Tour events in a career that has spanned 24 years. The Floridian led the 1968 U.S. Open for three rounds before falling to Lee Trevino. He is currently playing on the Senior PGA Tour. Tony Jacklin gained worldwide attention in 1969 when he became the first Englishman to win the British Open since Max Faulkner in 1951. Jacklin won the U.S. Open in 1970 and captained four Ryder Cup Teams. Roberto DeVicenzo is Argentina’s gift to the golfing world. He has won 4 PGA events, 1967 British Open, and represented Argentina in the World Cup a record 17 times.

This video is a golf match between Dow Finsterwald and Peter Alliss played at Tryall Golf Club, in Jamaica and aired January 27, 1963. The Tryall Golf Club in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is a 6,400 yard, par 71 layout that features wide fairways and well-bunkered greens. Though short by most standards, Tryall is susceptible to the prevailing winds blowing off the beautiful Caribbean. A holder of 11 PGA Tour events Dow Finsterwald has always been known for his superb short game. Finsterwald won the 1958 PGA Championship, and played on four Ryder Cup Teams and was the non-playing captain in 1977. Peter Alliss, son of British great Percy Alliss, was an accomplished amateur golfer in England before making his way into the professional ranks. As a professional, he became known as one of the game’s fiercest match players, appearing on 8 Ryder Cup Teams from 1953 to 1969.

This video is a golf match between Billy Casper and Doug Sanders played at The Country Club, just outside Boston, Massachusetts and aired January 29, 1966. The Country Club was America’s first true country club, opening for play in 1893. It was the site of Francis Ouimet’s victory in the 1913 U.S. Open. The 6,800 yard par 71 course winds through thick woods of elm, oak and maple and features big greens and tight fairways. Billy Casper, one of the game’s most consistent players, reached prominence in 1958 when he won four PGA Tour events. The next year he won the first of two U.S. Opens and went on to win 51 PGA Tour victories. He represented the U.S. on a record of nine Ryder Cup Teams. Colorful is the only way to describe Doug Sanders. A product of the state of Georgia, Sanders backed up his fun-loving demeanor with a strong game that amassed 19 PGA Tour victories. His first, the Canadian Open, he won as an amateur.
