    PREFERRED LIE

What is it?

The practice of being allowed to move the ball a defined length (usuallly 1 club length or up to six inches) when it slie is affected by adverse weather conditions

Basic Rules

this is not permitted under the general rules of golf.

Procedures

check the local rules before the round - including the distance a player is allowed to move the ball.

Penalty

for breach of the local rule - loss of hole/2 strokes

Exception

it is often permitted under local rules during the winter months.
