The configuration of head dimensions does several things:

  • It places the center of mass of the head rearward, promoting a higher launch angle and greater ball carry in the air. For most players the key to greater distance is with more carry.

  • The deep 60 mm face allows the player to launch the ball with less backspin which translates into less air friction and longer hits. Most players find 31/4 inch tees to be optimum for this design.

  • The face width is almost the same as the distance from face to rear. This relatively compact arrangement, with a face width of 110mm’s, allows the player to bring the toe of the clubhead around to a square position at impact and overcome the inertial drag found commonly on other designs. In combination with the multi flex rapid Fire shafts, the design fights slicing and tends to promote straight hits. Because of the overall size of 460 cc’s, off-center hits have minimum twist at impact.

  • The main body is finished in metallic black to reduce sun glare.

  • There is an aiming arrow on top of the head for ease in set up.

Shaft Selection

In general, players will match the shaft flex to their swing speeds.

X stiff above 110 mph
still 100 - 110 mph
firm 90 - 100 mph
regular 80 - 90 mph
seniors 75 - 80 mph
ladies under 75 mph

These shafts tend to work well with players who have intermediate swing planes – not very upright or very flat. They also work well for players with intermediate tempos - not very fast or quite slow. In exhaustive studies done at True Temper in the early 90’s it was found that swing speed is not the sole consideration in shaft selection. The results showed that it is not how fast you swing but how you swing fast – how you load the shaft and how you release its stored energy – that is also a vital consideration in shaft selection.

Fast tempo players should consider a one step increase in shaft flex, ie. firm to stiff, or regular to firm, etc., when selecting a proper flex.

Flat plane swingers who battle a hook should also consider a one step increase in shaft flex.

Players with very upright swing planes should consider a one step decrease in shaft flex, i.e. stiff to firm, or firm to regular, when selecting a proper flex.

And players with slow tempos should also consider a one step decrease in shaft flex.
