Jon Ebert: A simple training aid can help groove the swing.

Q. There seems to be a myriad of gadgets out there for golfers to buy, touting that they will take strokes off their scores. I'm sure many are reputable, but many are out there just to take the average duffer's money. Do you have any personal favorite training aids that you could recommend, and why you think they're helpful? - J.C., Mineral City, Ohio
A. My favorite training aid is probably the simplest one of all. It's called the "Impact Trac."
It looks like a white, plastic yardstick with blue lines on it. I lay it on the ground so it lines up to my target, put a ball on the notch in the middle of it, swing back on the white "backswing" line and down on the blue "downswing" line.
I get a consistent draw on my shots when I follow these lines. There's no resistance when hitting a ball off this device, which helps the arthritic joints in the wrists and elbows.
You don't have to worry about digging into the ground or hitting off tight, sandy lies. Every lie is perfect.
I keep one strapped to my bag with a bungee cord. I use it during my warm-up before each round. Then when I get on the course, I'm able to visualize the proper swing path, just as I do when I'm using the device.
"I love it!"

"I saw IMPACT TRAC on display in our Golf Shop. My handicap the last year had ballooned 10 strokes to 25. I started swinging on he TRAC a few days a week, just following the lines. Last week I shot an 88, net 63. Best score in over a year."

"This is one of the best teaching aids I've ever seen. IMPACT TRAC works. We see so many golfers making the mistake taking the club inside. You've really got something here, Paul."

"There are many good alignment devices, but Impact Trac gives you the added feature of proper swing path. "
